Adobe License Position Reporting

In any Adobe negotiation, the side with the better data wins. A clear license position report is that data: a single view of what you own, what you deploy, and what you actually use, built before Adobe brings its own version.

This article is part of our guide to working with Adobe from the buyer side, written for teams who want to keep control of cost and terms.

What a license position report is

A license position report, sometimes called an effective license position, compares three things side by side: your entitlements as written in the contract, your deployment as recorded in the Admin Console, and your genuine usage as shown by activity. The gap between entitlement and deployment is your compliance exposure. The gap between deployment and usage is your savings opportunity. One document holds both, which is exactly why it is so powerful at the table.

Why Adobe's numbers should not be the only numbers

When you have no report of your own, the only figures in the room are Adobe's. Those figures are built to support a sale, so they tend to count generously and forecast optimistically. A buyer with an independent position report can challenge a deployment claim, expose seats that are paid for but unused, and refuse to accept a true up rate applied to inflated counts. Without your own numbers, you are negotiating blind against a vendor who can see the board.

Building a report you can defend

A defensible report starts with the contract, so every entitlement is traced to a clause. It pulls deployment straight from the Admin Console rather than from memory, and it layers in real usage so idle seats are visible. We normalize identities first, removing duplicates and ghosts, because a report built on dirty data is easy for Adobe to dismiss. The result is a position you can stand behind line by line, which is the only kind worth bringing to a negotiation.

How we put it to work for buyers

We assemble the full position, reconcile it against your contract, and translate it into the moves that matter: reclaim the unused, right size the mix, and challenge any overage priced above your negotiated rate. We keep the report current so it is ready whenever a renewal or audit appears. Because we work for the buyer alone, the report is built to find your savings and protect your position, not to make a quota.
